This endotoxin has two alternative membrane association modes in the monomeric state: (1) as in Cry 3A (through the alpha-helical domain), and (2) through the hydrophobic beta-sheet at the opposite side of the protein, as shown in the picture. This protein undergoes major conformational transitions and oligomerization upon association with membranes.
