| Group II subfamily. Myotoxic protein that presumably lacks PA2 enzymatic activity. Induces necrosis of muscle cells. Three crystal forms of the myotoxin (1s8i, 1s8g and 1s8h) reveal that the presence of a ligand in the active site (naturally presumed to be a fatty acid) induces the exposure of a hydrophobic surface (the hydrophobic knuckle) toward the C terminus (Ambrosio et al. 2004). |
