Experimental Verification for 1wco » Nisin-Lipid II complex in DMSO solution
Calculated position seems to be consistent with sets of buried residues of nisin in lipid bilayers and micelles (van der Hoven et al. 1996, Bonev et al. 2000, Hsu et al. 2002). However, the comparison is difficult because the peptide is highly flexible, and its conformations in DMSO (1wco) and lipid bilayer may differ (Hsu et al. 2004). Maximal membrane binding affinity is -5.5 kcal/mol, based on the apparent binding constant at low concentration of the peptide (Breukink et al. 2000).
