Published fluorescence quenching data show penetration of Trp3 into the acyl chain region of the lipid bilayer (Tatulian et al. 2005), consistent with the calculations.

Structure of this phospholipase has been also determined in micelles where first three residues of the N-terminal alpha-helix (Ala1, Leu2 and Trp3) are disordered (van den Berg et al. 1995). K56 (PDB numbering) is N6-palmitoylated (UniProt).
